Humanitarian Crisis

Help fund emergency shelter, housing stabilization, and direct crisis support for families at risk of displacement.

Kansas City World Cup Humanitarian Response

This summer, as the 2026 Summer Soccer comes to Kansas City, thousands of our most most vulnerable neighbors may face unexpected homelessness. From late May through July hotel rates are projected to surge dramatically. Displacing individuals and families who live week-to-week in extended-stay hotels on fixed or limited incomes. Estimates suggest that between 6,000 and 30,000 people could be forced out with nowhere to go. What should be a season of celebration could quickly become a humanitarian crisis for those already living on the edge.

The Greater Church of Kansas City region is mobilizing now. In partnership with the Red Cross, city leadership, and community organizations, we are creating shelters in areas across the city in their communities. The church in greater KC has a chance to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this critical moment. Our goal is to raise up to $12 million to provide safe shelter, stability, and hope to those at risk of displacement. We are inviting churches, businesses, and individuals to step forward: sponsor this effort financially, volunteer your time, and join the United in Crisis Kansas City network. You will receive training in crisis response, mass sheltering and more. Together, we can keep families in their community, restore dignity in the middle of disruption, and be the answer when there seems to be none.
